Board of Correction
About the Board
The Idaho Department of Correction is a state government agency controlled by a three-member board appointed by the governor. Board of Correction members are appointed to six-year terms.
Chairman
Robin Sandy was appointed to the board in July 2006 and reappointed in 2011. She has served four terms under four governors. Sandy came to the Board of Correction after over eight years on the board of the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole. Sandy's background includes consulting work for businesses in the U. S., England, and India. She also owns her own company and has served as the Government affairs director for The American Cancer Society. Sandy's term expires in 2017.
Vice Chairman
Jay L. Nielsen was reappointed to the board in January 2008 by Governor Otter. Nielsen, a private financial consultant from Twin Falls, served on the Idaho Commission on Pardons and Parole between 1992 and 1998. Nielsen is the former President and CEO of D.L. Evans Bank in Burley and the Treasure Valley Bank in Fruitland. Nielsen's term expires in 2013.
Secretary
Howard G. “JR” Van Tassel was appointed to the board in January 2010. Van Tassel is a former Nez Perce County Commissioner where he served for thirteen years. He also served on the Lewiston City Council for seven years and was an active member of the Idaho Association of Counties. Van Tassel’s term expires in 2015.
