Policies & Forms

The Idaho Department of Correction currently manages and administers over 400 policies and procedures. The department has in its inventory two types of procedure: directives and standard operating procedures. Directives are being converted to standard operating procedure and are being made obsolete upon conversion to standard operating procedure.

Through providing on this website access to policies, standard operating procedures, and related manuals, forms, administrative rules, and statutes, the department is making every attempt to be a transparent agency and be fully compliant with Idaho public records law. However, Idaho public records law does allow the department to limit access or exempt from disclosure any policy-related document that, if released, may be a detriment to the safety and/or security of our correctional facilities, staff, or offenders. Where we have determined that such risks exist, those policy-related documents are easily identifiable (look for the word "redacted" in the table of contents, next to the title of the document).

Policies serve as the official communication of management philosophy regarding department operations and practices, while standard operating procedures provide instruction and/or step-by-step procedure for implementing department policies. Neither policies nor standard operating procedures have the force and effect of law.

To view department policies and standard operating procedures, you will need to have a pdf reader installed on your computer. If you do not have a pdf reader, you may download a free version from Adobe. To access department policies and procedures, click on this link: Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

Policy-related manuals serve as an extension of department policy and standard operating procedure. Typically, policy-related manuals provide more detailed or specific instruction, which is often more technical in nature (e.g. what information goes into a database or form field and how to enter that information). The policy-related manuals provided on this website were developed primarily for department staff use. Just like policies and procedures, policy-related manuals do not have the force and effect of law.

To view policy-related manuals, you will need to have a pdf reader installed on your computer. If you do not have a pdf reader, you may download a free version from Adobe. To access our policy-related manuals, click on this link: Manuals.

Policy-related forms serve as an extension of department policy and standard operating procedure. Policy-related forms are resources used for capturing and organizing information.

With the exception of our interactive (fillable) policy-related forms, all other policy-related forms will be appended to the policy or standard operating procedure they are associated with. So, if you do not find in this section the form that you are looking for, please check the policy or standard operating procedure before contacting the department's policy coordinator.

Because our policy-related forms are developed in various formats, you will need to have a pdf reader, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Excel installed on your computer. If you do not have a pdf reader, you may download a free version from Adobe. If you do not have Microsoft Word, you may download a free Word viewer from Microsoft. If you do not have Microsoft Excel, you may download a free Excel viewer from Microsoft. To access policy-related forms, click on this link:
