For several months the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) has been gearing up for what is expected to be a busier-than-usual flu season. In fact, the department’s staff and its medical provider, Correctional Medical Services (CMS), already have significant experience managing the H1NI flu virus in Idaho’s institutions. Over the summer dozens of offenders and staff members were successfully treated.

The department has assembled a stockpile of medicine and supplies to respond to an increase in the number of flu patients. The department also has developed several procedures to control the spread of the disease.

Here is a look at how those procedures will effect offenders, their families, IDOC staff and the community.
