CORE COGNITIVE PROGRAMS
BREAKING BARRIERS: Designed to create awareness that change is possible. By providing tools to develop cognitive thinking skills, change can take place. A video and workbook series focuses on breaking down known or unknown barriers to personal growth and openness to treatment. This course is offered in both English and Spanish. COGNITIVE SELF-CHANGE (CSC), Idaho Model: Studies the connection between thinking, feeling, and behavior, and how patterns of thinking can drive habitual ways of behaving. CSC is a method of self-change enabling the offenders to learn about and practice, breaking patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that lead to criminal behaviors. MORAL RECONATION THERAPY: MRT is a systematic treatment strategy designed to enhance self-image, promote growth of a positive productive identity, and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning. The program is effective with males and females in a variety of custody settings. The groups use structured exercises with individual and group processing, education, and homework. MRT has a variety of related programs, giving IDOC the potential to have integrated programming system-wide. THINKING FOR A CHANGE: A creative design and delivery strategy provides for increased flexibility and adaptability in various correctional settings. It integrates 3 cognitive-based approaches: Cognitive Self Change, social skills and problem solving. This program has the capacity to be tailored to the needs of the offender in order to emphasize the offender’s strengths, enabling them to overcome the weaknesses that may be barriers to the change process.
