IDOC is looking for farmers in the Treasure Valley to submit bids for a 5-year lease agreement for the farming of approximately 170 acres of state land around the South Boise Prison Complex (see diagrams here).

The lease agreement’s initial period will run from 2016 through 2021 and may be renewed beyond the initial period.

The lessee/farmer will be responsible to provide seed, equipment, fertilizer, fuel for farmer’s use, control weeds and rodents (e.g., gophers), and other items necessary for farmer to plant, maintain, and harvest crop.

The IDOC will provide effluent water and equipment necessary to provide water March 1 – October 31 of each year.

According to Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) annual soil testing permit requirements and the annual Quality Water Assurance Program (QWAP) recommendations, the lessee/farmer would be required to plant the recommended crop as outlined in the annual QWAP and DEQ soil testing results.

A pre-bidding conference will be held at South Idaho Correctional Institute (SICI) on February 19, 2016 at 9 am. At the conference, interested farmers will be provided more detail on the lease agreement, land, crop requirements, and farmer and IDOC responsibilities under the agreement.
