BOISE, June 11, 2016 — Security staff at Idaho Maximum Security Institution have locked down a portion of the facility following a fight this afternoon between 8 (eight) to 10 (ten) inmates.

No inmates or staff suffered serious injuries.

The fight began about 3:30 p.m. The inmates did not respond to correctional officers’ commands to stop fighting until the officers deployed CS gas and less-lethal, sting-ball rounds.

Idaho Department of Correction Director Kevin Kempf has ordered a Serious Incident Review of the incident.

The tier, A-3, houses 64 inmates. It will remain locked down at least through the weekend.

During a lockdown, inmates are restricted to their cells.

Visiting for inmates incarcerated elsewhere in the facility will occur tomorrow as scheduled.

IMSI is a 516-bed, maximum-security, men’s prison south of Boise.
