BOISE, July 20, 2011 – The Benewah County Sheriff’s Office says a man who escaped from the Benewah County Jail on Friday is back in custody.

Benewah County Sheriff Robert Kirts says Jesse John Wilkenson aka Brebner (IDOC #96482) was captured about 2 a.m. off of Conklin Road in Kootenai County. Sheriff Kirts says the apprehension was the result of a joint effort between the Plummer Police Department, the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office and Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police.

Wilkenson escaped from the jail Friday night. Earlier that day, a judge had sentenced Wilkenson to IDOC’s 365-day retained jurisdiction program as the result of  a burglary conviction. Also known as a rider, the program allows a judge to retain jurisdiction over an offender while he or she undergoes a period of evaluation and treatment. Successful completion of a rider typically allows an offender to be released on probation and avoid a lengthy prison sentence.

Wilkenson now faces an additional five-year prison sentence if convicted of escape.
