BOISE, April 29, 2013 -- The Idaho Department of Correction has named Russell Wheatley the new manager of the District 7 Probation and Parole Office based in Idaho Falls.

Wheatley is a Pocatello native who graduated from Pocatello's Highland High School in 1970. After graduation, he served ten years in the U.S. Air Force.

Following his honorable discharge in 1981, Wheatley returned to Pocatello and joined the city’s police department as an officer. In 1997, he went to work as a Power County misdemeanor probation officer and soon became the head of the county’s probation department.

In 2006, Wheatley joined the Idaho Department of Correction as a felony probation and parole officer in District 7. He was named manager of the district last month.

"We have a great staff here who get the job done every day, and I just want to support them in their endeavors," he says.

Wheatley succeeds former District 7 manager Nancy Espeseth who became warden of Pocatello Women's Correctional Center on January 20.
