IDOC's Annual Report FY11

BOISE, January 12, 2011 – The Idaho Department of Correction has released its annual report for fiscal 2011. The report is a summary of IDOC’s operations in the period from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

Among the highlights:

  • IDOC’s inmate population increased by one percent in fiscal 2011 — from 7,504 inmates to 7,578 inmates.
  • Inmate violence in Idaho facilities declined 23 percent in fiscal 2011 compared to fiscal 2009.
  • IDOC lost nearly a quarter of its correctional officers in fiscal 2011. A better job was the most common reason officers cited for leaving.

The report says the closure of the Twin Falls Community Work Center helped generate sufficient savings to end employee furloughs but correctional officer turnover will continue to be a top challenge for IDOC.

For fiscal 2012, the department has adopted the slogan Mission First, Safety Always.

“Safety remains our number one goal,” says IDOC Director Brent Reinke. “Trained, professional staff is the only way to ensure we give Idaho what it deserves: a safe state and our best every day.”
