The Idaho Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at Idaho State Correctional Institution south of Boise.

Brandon Munk, IDOC #94146, was found hanging in his cell on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 6:12 p.m. Emergency responders were able to restore his pulse.  He was rushed to St. Alphonsus Medical Center where he died Sunday, May 12, at 1:47 p.m.

Munk was 34 years old. On September 28, 2009 in Bannock County, Munk was sentenced to two to five years in prison for forgery, but the sentence was suspended and he was released on probation. Munk violated the terms of his probation and on January 25, 2010, a judge ordered Munk to be incarcerated and serve his prison term. Munk was scheduled to be released on July 22, 2014.

Per standard procedure, IDOC has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with the investigation of the circumstances surrounding Munk’s death.
