New warden takes over at SBWCC

BOISE, August 16, 2011 -Former Deputy Warden Shannon Cluney, who monito n red CCA’s operation of Idaho Correctional Center for IDOC, has taken over as warden at South Boise Women’s Correctional Center.

Cluney was raised in Honolulu and came to Idaho to attend Boise State University. He joined IDOC in 1987 with plans to move on to a career in juvenile counseling. But as he moved up through the ranks he decided to make adult corrections his career.

Cluney spent more than twelve years involved in special operations and emergency response teams. He says one of the highlights was leading a cadre of IDOC tactical instructors to Guadalajara, Mexico to provide two weeks of tactical training in 2007. 

Cluney says he likes to “manage by walking around” and leading by example.

“I believe that people should 'play their position' to the best of their ability, and as managers we are obligated to provide our employees the tools, support, and opportunities to be successful,” Cluney says.

Cluney sums up his philosophy on offender management with three words:  fair, firm and consistent.

Cluney’s hobbies include softball, coaching youth sports, and tinkering in the garage.
