ICIO Special Projects continue with flood relief

Inmates fill sandbags
By Lt. Greg Heun, Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino

Heavy rains over the past week in North-central Idaho have caused the region to deal with flooding and mud slides.

ICIO Special Projects have been deploying inmate crews to help with the flood relief efforts.

The worst flood damage has so far been the Kamiah, Kooskia, and Stites areas.

Highway 12 between Kamiah and Orofino was closed for approx. 5 days while the Department of Transportation cleared a multiple of mud slides.

Photo shows numerous pallets of sandbags filled by ICIO inmates.
