The Idaho Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at Idaho State Correctional Institution.

At 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, Daniel Lee Peterson, IDOC #35068 (DOB: 11/13/1964), was found hanging in his cell. ISCI staff immediately initiated resuscitation measures, which paramedics continued upon their arrival. Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peterson’s criminal record includes convictions for second-degree murder, grand theft and robbery in Canyon and Ada counties. He was serving a life sentence and was eligible to be considered for parole on Feb. 22, 2037.

As IDOC does in response to all unattended deaths in the South Boise Correctional Complex, the department has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with the investigation of the circumstances surrounding Peterson’s death.

ISCI is a 1,688-bed, medium-security men’s prison south of Boise.
