Members of the Idaho Department of Correction's Correctional Emergency Response Team made an impressive showing during a recent day-long, multi-agency training exercise in Boise.

The September 25 exercise teamed CERT members with their peers from the Meridian, Garden City and Boise police departments, as well as the Ada County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police. They practiced crowd control tactics in a variety of settings including Bronco Stadium, the Western Idaho Fairgrounds and Idaho Maximum Security Institution.

"We were all very impressed with your team's professionalism, training and tactics," said Lt. Douglas Schoenborn of the Boise Police Department. "It was good to see that our agencies are working together for the greater safety and security of the citizens of Idaho."

Sgt. Joshua Overgaard, the South Boise Correctional Complex's Alpha-team squad leader, says he and his colleagues learned several new tactics from their counterparts, which will make CERT even more versatile.

"We were very impressed by how all of the teams were able to work together," Overgaard says.
