Investigators probe apparent suicide at ISCI

BOISE, Sept. 7, 2015 — The Idaho Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at Idaho State Correctional Institution.

ISCI staff found Dean Clay Miller, IDOC #77580, unconscious in his cell Sunday at 1:20 p.m. They immediately initiated resuscitation measures and called 9-1-1.After paramedics arrived, Miller was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m.

Miller was 47 years old (DOB: Dec. 19, 1967). On Dec. 30, 2008 in Bannock County, he was sentenced to 28 years to life for assault with intent to commit robbery, burglary and possession of a controlled substance. 

Miller had a prior conviction for burglary in Bannock County in 2005 and had been classified as a persistent violator. Miller was eligible to be considered for parole on Sept. 23, 2036.

As it does in response to all apparent suicides in the South Boise Correctional Complex, IDOC has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with the investigation of the circumstances surrounding Miller’s death.

ISCI is a 1,446-bed, medium-security men’s prison south of Boise.
