Investigators probe apparent suicide of IDOC inmate

BOISE, Feb. 7, 2014 - The Idaho Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the South Boise Women's Correctional Center.

At 12:07 a.m. Thursday, a correctional officer found Darcie Olsen, #98026 unconscious in her cell. SBWCC's staff immediately initiated resuscitation measures, which paramedics continued upon their arrival. Olsen was pronounced dead at12:57 a.m.

Olsen was 52 years old (DOB: Feb. 8, 1961). Her criminal record included two felony convictions in Blaine County for driving under the influence. She was eligible to be considered for parole on June 15, 2014. Her full-term release date was June 14, 2019.

As IDOC does in response to all unattended deaths in the South Boise Correctional Complex, the department has asked the Ada County Sheriff's Office for assistance with the investigation of the circumstances surrounding Olsen's death.

SBWCC is a 284-bed, women's treatment and transition facility located in the South Boise Correctional Complex.
