An Idaho State Correctional Center officer and two Corizon medical staff members received the Idaho Department of Correction’s Silver Cross Award at the Idaho Board of Correction’s meeting at the Treasure Valley Reentry Center on March 20, 2018.

On Jan. 31, 2018, an inmate complained of chest pains and shortness of breath. While being taken to ISCC’s medical unit, the inmate stopped breathing and became unresponsive.

Officer Sheila Newcomb, Corizon register nurse Allison Miguez and Corizon CMS Anthony Young resuscitated the inmate and are credited with saving his life.

The Silver Cross Award is presented to Idaho Department of Correction staff members who display prompt or alert action that results in a life being saved or the prevention of injury to others.
