Warden Aaron Krieger, Deputy Warden Brad Lutz, along with IDOC Deputy Chief of Prisons Ross Castleton had the privilege of presenting a 40 Years of Service Award to Education Program Manager Bill Farmer.

During his years with Robert Janss School, he has had seen thousands of inmates leave our facility with their General Education Development (GED) certificates. But having a school in place that inmates can walk away from feeling like they can learn, can change, gain skills, and be successful is what brings him coming back every day.

Years ago, Bill was shopping at JCPenney with his family and a former inmate noticed him. After glancing at them a few times, he went to grab his mother. As soon as he introduced her to Bill, she immediately thanked him for giving her back her son.

Bill believes the inmates come to school with hope and if we can fan that flame and engage these men to learn together and celebrating success together, they will continue this success in the community.
