Recently the North Region CERT and CNT held one of their yearly combined training days above NICI, on the Butte.

Upon arrival at NICI where the teams gathered, newer CERT & CNT members received a tour of the facility to become familiar with the facility buildings and layout.

From there, the teams headed up Cottonwood Butte to the old military radar installation located at the top.

That day’s training focused on back to basics, CERT familiarity of CNT operations, CNT familiarity of CERT operations, and effective deploying of the CNT throw phone.

As CERT worked on deploying the throw phone to the upper floors of the old radar station building through a twist of stairways, CERT Commander Lt. Dane Powers and Assistant Commander Sgt. Matt Blanford made a great suggestion to the CNT on a different way of prepping the throw phone cable that the CNT quickly saw as superior to the way it had been done.

The CNT appreciated the suggestion, which will practically eliminate wear or damage when moving around corners, through a line of doors, and up or down stairways.

These teams work close together; as one team, living up to the saying: “Duo Bigas, Una Missio”. Two Teams, One Mission.
