Phone Rates Change

Interstate Rates Impacted

Inmate phone rates are changing for Idaho Department of Correction facilities. Effective February 7, 2014 state-to-state rates will be $.21 per minute (plus taxes) for all debit, PIN debit and pre-paid calls. Collect calls will cost $.25 per minute (plus taxes.) In-state calling rates remain the same.

Service provider GTL announced the change to comply with a new Federal Communication Commission decision on prison phone rates. This change only impacts out-of-state calls.

The change will save some callers money and cost others more. For families calling states other than Idaho, if the inmate calls using inmate phone debit funds call rates will increase. For pre-paid and collect the cost of your call will go down. Below are a few scenarios that might help in determining the best calling options.

DEBIT FUNDS
Previously state to state debit calls cost a flat rate of $3.40 for 30 minutes. At the $.21 cents per minute the cost of a full 30 minute call will go up to $6.30 plus tax when using inmate phone debit funds.

PREPAID
For prepaid state to state calls, previously calls cost $3.60 plus $.80 a minute. The new $.21 per minute fee will reduce prepaid calling costs to $6.30 plus tax for a 30 minute call.

COLLECT
For collect state to state calls, previously calls cost $3.80 plus $.85 a minute.  The new $.25 per minute fee will reduce collect calling costs to $7.50 plus tax for a 30 minute call.

Again, this impacts interstate calls only and is effective February 7, 2014.
