BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 27, 2018 — The Idaho Board of Correction has appointed Josh Tewalt Director of the Idaho Department of Correction.

Tewalt is rejoining the department after leaving to be the Director of Operations of the Association of State Correctional Administrators. Prior to that, Tewalt worked as Deputy Chief of the Division of Prisons and more recently as Administrator of Budget and Policy. In those roles, he was responsible for strategic initiatives, including shaping a department reorganization to better position the agency to meet future demands.

“Josh was instrumental to the department’s success when he was here, and he returns to the department with a national perspective on corrections,” said Debbie Field, Chairman of the Idaho Board of Correction. “Josh’s creativity and innovation will benefit public safety in Idaho, but equally important is his care and concern for the staff of the department, and the people in their custody and supervision. We’re excited to have him back.”

Tewalt’s first day will be Dec. 1, 2018. He succeeds Henry Atencio who is retiring after 28 years with IDOC.
