IDOC PIO note: Josh is *not* leaving the Idaho Department of Correction. In addition to his duties as the department’s director, he will now be leading a national committee that will be searching for ways to help people who have been incarcerated succeed after prison.

The ASCA (CLA) Executive Committee recently appointed Idaho Department of Correction Director Josh Tewalt (pictured) as the Chair of the Reentry and Community Corrections Committee.

Tewalt was appointed Director of Idaho DOC in December 2018 and will succeed recently retired Arizona Director Chuck Ryan as the Committee’s chair.

Prior to his appointment as Director of Idaho DOC, Tewalt served as ASCA’s Director of Operations. In that position, Tewalt was actively engaged with all of ASCA’s twelve standing committees.

As chair of the longstanding Reentry and Community Corrections Committee, Director Tewalt will lead a committee comprised of over a dozen fellow directors from across the country in identifying and promulgating correctional practices that are likely to reduce the number of offenders returning to prison after release
