North Idaho Correctional Institution will host 9 University of Idaho Students with a Staff Advisor as part of the university’s Alternative Spring Break.

This will be the 3rd year U of I students spend their spring break at NICI to work with the staff and inmates.

In the past, students have helped with school classes, groups, and inmate activities.

The U of I students add a different perspective and have time and skills to help with some of our activities.

Outcomes from the last couple of years include role plays in groups, starting Knowledge Bowl (still going on) assisting with computer aided instruction, helping with Pre-release and Career Planning Interviews, and sharing ideas.

Students will arrive in Cottonwood on Sunday, March 12th and will be at NICI each day between 8:00 and 8:30 to work with Education, Treatment, Recreation, and Work programs.

It is a unique opportunity and I appreciate working for an institution where this can happen.Patti Greene working with last year’s U of I students during the Alternative Spring Break.
