Someone recently stole a bike belonging to a boy who lives across from Probation & Parole District 1’s office in Coeur d’Alene. The boy’s mother called the office and asked staff to check their security cameras.

Knowing it was unlikely the boy would get his bike back, three D-1 staff members bought him a new one. District manager John Andrich says the boy’s mother told them she had been saving for months to buy her son a bike, and she was very thankful for the gift.

“I am still in shock by the amazing generosity from all of you,” the boy’s mother wrote in an email to the D-1 staff.  “Thank you so much again from the bottom of our hearts; he was so excited and said he loves it even more than the other one.”

“Our staff do selfless, amazing things every day, and this is just one example,” John says.
