Building Stakeholder Confidence

Citizens’ Advisory Council

The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) created the Citizens’ Advisory Council (CAC) in June 2020 to strengthen relationships with the people we serve and to ensure their voices meaningfully inform how we do our work. The CAC provides a structured, ongoing forum for individuals currently or formerly under IDOC jurisdiction—and their families—to offer insight, raise ideas, and share perspectives that help shape agency practices.

By inviting lived experience to the table, the CAC directly supports IDOC’s strategic goal of enhancing transparency, deepening engagement with key stakeholders, and proactively telling our story to partners and policymakers. Members meet regularly to provide feedback on initiatives, contribute to policy and program improvements, and help us better understand the real‑world impact of our decisions. Their partnership is essential in building a correctional system that is responsive, respectful, and continually improving.
